Re: Energy Bills
They reduced mine from 280 to 220 a month and it had been holding ok, but we've both had covid/flu so have been at home with the heating on, so we've probably eaten up a bit of the credit we had.

3 bedroom detached.
Currently paying £200 p/m via DD for gas and electricity, with about £1200 credit.
Haven't had a bill since June though, so fully expect it to rise by a fair chunk.
Cunts.

Re: Energy Bills
Mine's a 5 bed that I converted to a 4 bed as I wanted a bigger room for my eldest. Paying 280 up to june, they reduced to 220 after the govt price cap. I had 750 in credit up until end october but expect that will go down when I submit the latest reading

Re: Energy Bills
D/D of £130 and obviously the 66 quid government handout. Built up around 900 quid credit. Pay monthly. Bill yesterday was £133 for 191 kwh of electricity, that was around 80 quid and a mere 14 imperial units of gas, can't remember the kwh, that was about 50 quid. To put it in perspective the last time I said that much on a monthly energy bill I used 300 odd kwh of electricity and 66 imperial units of gas! So 50 quid for heating on 3 times for half an hour over a month plus hot water and a gas hob, rarely used. Savage. Brother in law suggested a ceramic heater for my small study but was told an oil filled radiator was more economical, not sure if it is, will soon find out as I've bought one. Scary thing is doubt most of us will get any help when it goes up another 20% in April!

Depends on how old you are and how warm you need to be. I'd recommend the oil-filled rad most times as it retains heat for longer. What flooring do you have in your study?

Re: Energy Bills
£260 a month, family of five (6, 4, 6months) both me and the wife have businesses and work from home. Detached 3 bedroom in Cotswolds.

Today I’ve had my parents visit. Been in charge of things, used dishwasher on short wash twice, two 1.5hr washing machines, 2hr tumble drier, 1hr oven plus lights, TV, chargers, fridge etc at £6 for the day just for electric at moment. Gas isn’t on smart yet. It’s madness really when calculated over a longer period.

Re: Energy Bills
Thanks Rios, mid 50s here. Heating been generally off but when it hit 16c yesterday that was a bit chilly. Fine downstairs with dressing gown and throw but the study is upstairs so on wooden floor boards and work from home generally. So just some sort of heat burst once in a while to take the edge off is what I'm looking for but pointless if say running an oil filled radiator for an hour or two costs the same as turning the heating on for an hour or so as obviously electricity costs more than gas! That said I've had a survey done by a company re government warmer homes for people on lower incomes and I might qualify for solar panels. If that's the case then an electrical heater during the day possibly mates sense.

£120 a month with £290 credit. 3 bed terraced house. I'm sure that will go up over the next few months,

So they get you to use less electricity (simply to avoid the cost of building more generating capacity) then triple the cost of what you do use (to keep shareholder dividends as a "reasonable" level).

How green is your proletariat?

Re: Energy Bills
Bill for November was £247 including the £66 gov rebate. Trying to cut back where possible, so a bit pissed off with the bill but we live in a four bedroom detached bit only two of us. Thinking of getting loft reinsulated as over 30 years old.

Re: Energy Bills
Also invested in a log burner a few years back, our downstairs is pretty much open plan and found a fella out in Tiptree that delivers hardwood logs my way 200 quid m3 burn coal as well.
Best investment ever.

Re: Energy Bills
£270 for both gas and electric. Three bed semi.
I'm retired, so sometimes have the heating on during the day.
There was chimney, but it wasn't economical or practical to have it reinstated. Wish it was possible as my chainsaw needs to be used

If you've got bare floorboards, it will feel warmer. Important to keep your feet warm. The heating pipes probably run under the boards, on top of the joists, so you will get heat from the pipes through the floor when the heating is on as well as the rads.

Re: Energy Bills
riosleftsock - The study is carpeted so I use a throw with a feet slot when on my PC as well as wearing large dressing gowns or fleece tops as trying not to use the heating unless I need it, hence the oil filled radiator as when at home it's just to blast that room couple of times a day rather than the whole house.

Oil filled rad takes a while to heat up but is very efficient.

You might be better with a small, cheap fan heater as it will heat the space much quicker.

£300.73 for Oct/Nov. Live in a really old cottage high in the hills. Just me and Mrs BLB and the dog. Have a combi boiler for hot water and CH (only on for about an hour 1st thing). Electric Aga on all the time, programmed to get hot once a day for evening scran. Can use it as a slow cooker and hot plates rest of the time. Got 2 woodburners, big one in the living room on all day. Small one in kitchen bit on when I'm watching footie, rugger or cricket. Pay £70 per m3 for seasoned hardwood. About £700 a year I would guess.
